Specialist picture framing and display

Specialist framing and display from Thomas Murphy

Newcross Design and Display is run by Thomas Murphy from his premises in Ewell, providing bespoke framing, Perspex display and picture hanging services for private collectors, galleries and prestigious clients.

  • A distinctive Perspex framing technique

Thomas developed his specialist method while serving his apprenticeship with leading picture framing companies. The technique protects artwork at the front and sides while creating the minimum visual barrier between viewer and work.

  • Experienced, trusted craftsmanship

After ten years developing his craft, Thomas established his own business at 28 and has been running successfully ever since. Clients have included the Saatchi Gallery, Sotheby’s, William Morris Gallery, Alon Zakaim Gallery, Firmdale Hotel Group, Amir Mohtashemi - Islamic Art, Kent Antiques and Afridi Gallery

Thomas’s work is especially suited to pieces where conventional framing would compete with the artwork, or where texture, depth, textiles or three-dimensional form call for a more refined display solution.

Services

Four specialist services for displaying, protecting and presenting artwork beautifully.

Perspex Framing

Perspex framing is ideal for a wide range of artwork, particularly where a textured finish or three-dimensional quality makes classical framing inappropriate. It protects the work while allowing the art itself to remain the focus.

Textile Display

Perspex display is especially effective for textiles, garments and fabric-based pieces. It presents the artwork clearly while helping to protect it from UV light, insects and other sources of damage. Textile Conservator clients include; Soteria Conservation, Louise Squire Conservation, Caroline Turner Textiles and Debbie Williams conservator

3D Art and Object Cases

Where the artwork is a complete object, or is not suitable for a conventional frame, a bespoke Perspex cabinet can provide the perfect balance of protection, visibility and presentation.

Picture Hanging and Arrangement

Newcross also provides professional picture hanging and arrangement, including re-hanging collections after a house move and helping clients make the best use of their available wall space.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Perspex framing, display cases and picture hanging.

Why choose Perspex framing rather than a traditional frame?

Perspex framing protects the artwork while keeping the frame itself visually discreet. It is often chosen where the artwork has texture, depth or a three-dimensional quality, or where a conventional frame would distract from the piece.

Is Perspex framing suitable for textiles?

Yes. Perspex display is particularly well suited to textiles and garments because it allows the piece to be seen clearly while helping to protect it from light, insects and environmental damage.

Can you make display cases for objects?

Yes. For three-dimensional art, memorabilia, sculptural pieces and other objects, Newcross can create bespoke Perspex cabinets designed around the size, shape and character of the item.

Do you offer picture hanging after a move?

Yes. Newcross is often asked to arrange and re-hang collections when a client has moved property, helping each picture sit naturally within the new space.

Do you work with private clients as well as galleries?

Yes. Thomas works with private collectors, galleries and clients who need specialist help displaying, protecting or hanging important pieces.
